Sarah Jane Schmidt, pastor of worship

"I’ve been a music lover all my life and began piano lessons at age 7. Music studies over
the years centered around piano playing and choral singing/conducting. For me, music is a
gift from God and performing or listening to music can reach and touch us at a deep level,
somewhere beyond the cognitive. It’s real soul food. It is then so natural to offer that back to
God in our worship. Much of what I do at REMB centers around the music/arts, discovering and
drawing out the creativity of our members and working to find ways to allow each one to offer
those gifts to God and the community for our mutual benefit.

I also love the music of nature and being outside: gardening, walking, jogging, canoeing, hiking,
X-C skiing, biking – whatever excuse I can find. The sounds and sights of the outdoor world
never cease to amaze me and being out there brings me renewal in body, mind and spirit.

This is my first staff position in a church (since November 2007) although I have been an active
volunteer in numerous roles within the church since my teens. I believe those experiences have
helped shape me for what I am doing now at REMB. I’m married to Rick Schmidt and have a
grown son and daughter, each married."
